Using Scripts with Flare

Sometimes you want to take your carefully authored work to another level. Have you ever wanted to make your online topics “do stuff” just like any other web page? Perhaps you didn’t know where to start or maybe “scripting” sounds a little scary to you. Let’s overcome that! A little JavaScript on a web page can go a long way. JavaScript may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think about an XML-based authoring solution. But MadCap Flare can produce online outputs including a modern HTML5 format. You can edit and manage scripts for online topics with MadCap Flare. But how do you do all of that?

In this session, Thomas Tregner will show you:

  • Starter scripts for Flare outputs
  • How to add scripts to Flare topics, snippets, master pages, and skins
  • When JavaScript makes sense for MadCap Flare
  • Show and hide examples • Event (click, keystroke, etc.) examples
  • Where to put Google Analytics scripts
  • How to add buttons and menus for advanced behaviors
